Soul of the Movement Fund MA – History

The Soul of the Movement (SoM) Fund Massachusetts began as a collaboration between the Center for the Soul of Movement (Alexie Torres) and Episcopal City Mission in 2019. The vision was primarily to support healing and spiritual practice in justice work that contributes to the resiliency and wholeness of Massachusetts’ social justice ecosystem. In an effort to respond to the healing and resilience support needed during the Covid 19 pandemic, the SoM Fund MA launched the Covid-19 Healing and Spiritual Response in Summer 2020, resourcing 20 organizations and individual healing practitioners.

With deep consideration for  alignment, capacity, and community relationships, it was determined that the SoM Fund MA would be housed within Movement Sustainability Commons, a project of Resist Inc. The mission of Movement Sustainability Commons nourishes and sustains people and groups working for justice, economic democracy, and liberation. We do this by offering affordable and high quality services, practices, spaces, and pathways that support both interdependence and self-reliance for community self-determination.
